How it works?

Labetalol is an alpha and beta adrenergic blocker. It selectively blocks alpha one receptors, and non-selectively blocks beta receptors to decrease blood pressure, heart rate, and myocardial oxygen demand.

Labetalol 100 mg

Labetalol 100 mg (Trandate): Uses & Dose

So it is used in the management of hypertension. Labetalol is available as 100mg, 200mg, and 300mg tablets and also available as injection. The usual initial dose of labetalol for hypertension for adults is 100mg twice a day, increasing it 2 to 3 day intervals in 100mg twice a day increments until blood pressure is controlled The usual maintenance dose is 200 to 400mg twice a day, to a maximum of 1.2 to 2.4 grams per day. Contraindications

It is contraindicated in case of cardiogenic shock, bronchial asthma, heart failure, severe bradycardia, and second and third degree heart block

Labetalol 100 mg (Trandate): Effects

Labetalol may cause dizziness and fatigue, headache, scalp tingling, nausea and dyspepsia, postural hypotension, edema, taste disturbance, impotence, rash, and blurred vision

Advice

Change position slowly to minimize orthostatic hypotension and avoid conditions of extreme heat, as this may lead to dehydration and excessive lowering of blood pressure. Do not change the dose or stop taking labetalol unless advised by your health care provider, and also avoid using any OTC medication without consulting your health care provider. Keep in mind that a regular exercise program weight reduction. A low sodium diet, smoking cessation program, alcohol reduction, and stress management are very helpful in controlling hypertension.
